Or, it’s the economy stupid.

Today I heard 3 different bits of news that showed that the news can say what they want about things getting worse, or getting better, but it is effecting me, at least indirectly!  Today Conde Nast announced they would stop publishing Gourmet magazine, I found out that Patisserie Angelica in Sebastopol is closing (they made my first wedding cake) and that Langley’s on the Green is closed.  Funny thing about the last one…yesterday Travis and I tried to have lunch there, they were closed, I wasn’t sure why, I am now!

As for Gourmet, well I’m a Bon Appetit fan, so this isn’t a huge blow to me, but still, it says something about the changing world.  Not necessarily something bad, but something for sure.  I will get back to you when I decide what that is.

I am not overwhelmed with the closing of the bakery or Langley’s, but it puts me on edge about the places that I love in this town. There are a few places that I worry about, they don’t seem as crowded when I’m there and I’m not sure how long they can stay open.  I guess I will do the only thing I know how and continue to eat out so I can help save the local economy.  Someone has to right?

On a separate note, I just heard the FTC is going to start regulating bloggers, insisting that they disclose any relationship they have with a company if they are talking about a product.  Does anyone really have an argument why this is a bad thing?  If someone is telling me a restaurant is great, I want to know if it is owned my their mom, or if they always eat free there.  We expect this everywhere else, why not where most of us go for reviews these days.
